FAKE BOOK: Why I Would Never Build My Facebook Marketing Strategy on Facebook Alone

I jokingly call it FAKE BOOK because businesses sometimes treat Facebook as if it is their website, email list, search strategy, portfolio, customer database, and marketing department all rolled into one. It is not.
Facebook has also become more and more FAKE since AI has been introduced, they want everyone to become a content creator, digital creator - they are begging us to create real content because all I see is AI generated content. Have they solicited you yet?
Facebook Marketing Works Better When You Own the Destination
Facebook can be incredibly useful. It can introduce people to your work, create conversation, build community, promote events, retarget visitors, and keep your business visible. But the page itself belongs to the platform. The rules belong to the platform. The algorithm belongs to the platform. Your access to the audience is always mediated by someone else's system.
I have watched businesses spend years building a following and then become frustrated when only a fraction of those followers see a post. That does not make the followers worthless. It means followers and an owned audience are not the same thing.
The True Destination: Your domain, website, email list, customer relationships, original photography, testimonials, case studies, and blog library are different. Those are business assets you can continue improving. They can appear in search. They can answer questions. They can be linked, reorganized, repurposed, and used to teach both customers and AI what your company knows.
My recommendation is not to abandon Facebook. Use it. Just stop asking it to be the foundation. Let Facebook send people somewhere you control - your own domain. WHAT BUSINESSES SHOULD KNOW ABOUT FACEBOOK MARKETING
Does a business still need Facebook?
Many businesses benefit from having an active Facebook presence, but the importance varies by audience and industry. It should complement rather than replace owned marketing assets.
What does rented media mean?
Rented media is a platform you use but do not control. The platform can change algorithms, features, reach, policies, or access.
What marketing assets does a business own?
Common owned assets include the domain, website, original content, customer database or permission-based email list, photography, case studies, and brand intellectual property.
